Riley Keough and her husband Ben Smith-Petersen quietly welcomed a baby girl last year.
During Lisa Marie Presley’s memorial service at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee on Sunday, Smith-Petersen confirmed the news while delivering a tribute on behalf of Keough. As the actor sat in the front row, her husband read the words she prepared. “I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and my sisters. Thank you for giving me strength, my heart, my empathy, my courage, my sense of humor, my manners, my temper, my wildness, my tenacity. I’m a product of your heart, my sisters are a product of your heart, my brother is a product of your heart,” he said.
Smith-Petersen did not provide any additional details regarding their child’s name or birthday, but a representative for Keough confirmed to People that the pair had a baby girl in 2022. Keough is the daughter of the late Presley and musician Danny Keough, who were married from 1988 to 1994.
The actor first met her stuntman husband while filming Mad Max: Fury Road in Namibia in 2012. But the two remained casual acquaintances until they started dating a year later while doing reshoots for the movie in Australia. Two months later, they moved in together and four months after that, in 2014, they announced their engagement on Facebook with Smith-Petersen sharing a photo of Keough wearing a diamond ring, captioned, “So that happened.” The couple went on to wed in February 2015, hosting their first wedding in Nepal, where they were building a school, a few weeks before their second wedding in Napa Valley, California. After getting matching tattoos the third day they hung out, Keough and Smith-Petersen have since been married for the last eight years.
In a 2022 essay for Vogue Australia about finding her “soulmate,” Keough wrote of their first ceremony, “The families knew we were getting married and they said, ‘Let us throw you a Hindu wedding.’ It was so beautiful and, in some ways, that wedding was a little more intimate and really special. That wedding, I cried. At my bigger wedding I was a little nervous, I wasn’t as present. But it was still equally as amazing.” She continued, “My husband is such a good person. He’s calm and loyal and strong and sensitive. He’s my best friend…Love turns into different things over the years, and I’m excited to see all the different phases it goes through. I’m excited to wake up and be in our house, and have our coffee, and Ben goes for a surf and we’re just hanging out when we’re older. I’m excited to have kids. Everything is exciting to me, with him. Every day is exciting when you’re with your soulmate.”
